“What is the Purpose of This Interaction?”

How We Serve Our Families

I am reading This is Marketing by Seth Godin; the title of this post is from his book (p.163). He talks about the choice we have when interacting with our clients. He challenges us to decide how we choose to interact and treat those people we serve. What about spending time “delighting an extraordinary customer?” (p.164). How do we do this? “Amazement and delight go a long way.” (p. 164).

I think the photograph of my daughter Ruth when she was little illustrates amazement and delight. This week, I took his idea and intentionally applied it both in my Little Hands music and movement classes, as well as in my individual Peek-a-Boo Speech therapy. I watched as my amazement and delight of a 13 month old turned into gales of laughter. There is nothing like hearing a baby laugh!

During my individual therapy, a parent snapped a picture of me and her two year old son madly beating our tom drums with the same open mouthed facial expression of amazement and delight. I came home that day feeling fulfilled. I spent the day delighting, and being delighted, by the extraordinary families I get to serve.

I encourage you to find amazement and delight in your daily interactions. We get to work with some extraordinary humans. What a tremendous gift!
