We’re Going on a Trip
Building Vocabulary
Just like Little Einstein’s theme song, it was time for me to take a trip.
It was time for me to experience new things and recharge.
Summers are when we desire to do something new, so our usual routines are disrupted. It is also an opportunity for children with language delays to learn new vocabulary when experiencing new places, new people, and encounters with new objects.
One of my little friends recently came back from the beach. On his trip he learned the words “beach,” “seashell,” “pool,” “crab,” and his cousins’ names. He came back from the beach making more word combinations, and is no longer experiencing a delay in his expressive language. We will discharge in a couple of weeks!
Even as an adult, we can always grow our vocabulary through new experiences. During my most recent summer trip, I learned “creek crossing” (20 in total!) when hiking Devil’s Bathtub, I learned “19 stories tall,” “carbonate,” and “buttress” when visiting Natural Bridge.
I look forward to hearing about my families’ adventures throughout the summer and celebrate the inevitable progress from experiences, new places, people, and things!
