Laughter is the Best Medicine
Let Yourself Laugh!

According to Martinez in the Mind Body Code, a good belly laugh dilates blood vessels and aids in the healing of post cardiac problems. In Laughter in Medicine, laughter relaxes the whole body, boosts the immune system, releases feel good chemicals called endorphins, protects our hearts, helps us burn calories and stay mentally healthy. The many health benefits of laughter!

Laughter is a big part of who I am and how I approach both my life and my work. It is how I was raised and how I raised my daughters who are featured in the photograph.

This past week was a week of laughter with my little friends. When you enter a family’s home with laughter in your heart, you never know what might happen. One of my little autistic friends had a pop up space tent big enough for a child and perhaps a small adult (I happen to be only 4’ 8”) so when I was invited to be an astronaut inside his tent, I went! I enjoyed the power of laughter when, while in the tent, I peered out the tent window to talk to his mom.
He loved being an astronaut so I sang “Zoom, Zoom, Zoom, We’re Going to the Moon” which he repeatedly requested, “More Zoom!” Each time I peered out the tent’s window to comment to his mom, we all started laughing again. It felt so good for all of us!

As I drove away from their home, I continued to experience the benefits of an hour of belly laughs. When was the last time you had a good belly laugh in your work or with those you love? 10/10 highly recommend!
